TARC - Topeka Association for Retarded Citizens

Employment Services

Director: Shelby Fry

Group Work Performed in the Community (Enclaves):

Employees are afforded the opportunity to experience on the job training in the community while working in a group setting. Our Employment Services program has enclaves working at a wide variety of locations in Shawnee County. Employees gain valuable work training, experience, and the ability to work under different employer's policies and expectations.

Community Job Placement with Job Coaching:

Individuals are assisted by Employment Services staff every step of the way as they achieve community job placements. Participants are employed and paid by community employers. As an employee, the participant is expected to follow and learn their job description and a TIES Employment Associate aids them in doing so. This Employment Associate will provide on- site Job Coaching to ensure that the employee reaches and exceeds expectations. They work as a liaison between the employee and the employer providing assistance in education and the training required in learning a new job description.

Community Job Placement with access to Job Coaching:

The participant is employed and paid by the community employer. The employee is able to meet their individual job description and the employer no longer requires full-time job coaching by an Employment Associate. Employment Associates provide long- term follow up services to the employee and employer as determined by that group. Employment Associates follow up on a weekly to monthly basis to ensure that the employee continues to follow their job description and meet the needs of the employer. As needed, the employee will receive Job Coaching to ensure continued successful employment.
